MMC ACCELERATES SPEED OF DEPLOYMENT

FROM DESIGN THROUGH DEPLOYMENT

MMC Speed of Deployment

Each component of the MMC connector platform is designed to operate as a system that improves the data center speed of deployment life cycle from structured cabling design to installation and testing.

Ferrule Comparison

Compatibility

When designing structured cabling systems, flexibility is critical to enabling decisions to be made for today’s needs that will not slow down the choices to be made for future architecture requirements.  The MMC is designed to provide this flexibility with a TMT ferrule format that is compatible with both current fiber types and cabling as well as those of the future.  The TMT ferrule format is compliant with the IEC 61755 and 61754 precision alignment structure for MT and MT-16 ferrules, enabling compatibility with current MPO cabling and compatibility with all fiber types.  Designed with fiber holes on a 250 µm pitch, the MMC is compatible with standard 250 µm OD single mode and multi-mode fibers in addition to smaller OD fibers, including 200 µm and 165 µm, allowing ease for design today with flexibility for migration to future technologies.

MMC Polarity

Polarity Management

Polarity management of multi-fiber optical connector systems is necessary to ensure correct transmit to receive mapping throughout the network. This has historically has been a complex, time-consuming process subject to factory and field errors. The MMC platform simplifies polarity management with a single method by linking gender and polarity to define three MMC-terminated assembly types, along with a single fiber break-out assembly to support all cabling link configurations with a single adapter type. Using the MMC polarity method reduces product and system design complexity, saves design time upfront, reduces troubleshooting time during cabling installation and testing, and enables inventorying of standard patch cords and harnesses.

With the continued increase in optical port count requirements,, installation of the optical cabling infrastructure can have a significant impact on meeting data center production ready deliverables. The MMC platform includes design features and capabilities that enable faster  installation and reduced time in testing.

Precision Alignment

The asymmetric rail design features of the MMC connector and adapter components prevent incorrect orientation of a connector into an adapter, reducing installation errors and time spent troubleshooting.

4 Port Mi Adapter

Mass Insertion

The MMC platform includes Mass Insertion (Mi) MMC solutions for faster installation time with the mating of multiple MMC connectors at the same time in a carrier-based mechanical-advantage design. Mass insertion of optical connectors with pre-configured MMC cable assemblies enables fewer individual connector insertions and reduces field port-mapping installation errors in complex mesh architectures, reducing both installation and trouble-shooting time, while still allowing for individual connector access.

Reduced Debris Generation

The MMC connector is designed to reduced debris generation, saving time in testing and link trouble-shooting. The precision-engineered rail design leverages an extended pre-alignment length for guide pins to guide holes when mating connectors, eliminating pin stubbing and reducing guide hole wear and debris generation, resulting in cleaner connectivity. Further, the MMC connector is designed with a single-sided latch into the adapter, located away from the optical plane, reducing debris generated when mating and de-mating connectors.
